Desola Franklin · Founder

I got into HR because work got it wrong.

Over a decade in HR, a Creator’s ear, and a very personal reason for doing this work.

The long way round.

My first job after graduating knocked me back in a way I didn’t expect.

I was failed; mistreated at work, and it rewired how I saw everything.

A brief series of events made one thing clear to me: I had no advocates.

So I chose the one profession that could stop that experience from happening to someone else.

It became the fuel to design better workplace systems, fairer environments and far better equipped leaders. It’s pretty good for commercial business too.

Over a decade later, I’ve built my career in HR across startups and scale-ups, in operations and strategy.

Today I’m a HR consultant and the Creator behind Your HR Bestie®, with a 50k+ community and one mission:

“Giving people the tools to advocate for themselves at work.”

The founders I work with see the value in employee advocacy. They want to know how their people genuinely feel about the workplace, and with thousands of people trusting me, that’s something I have unique insight into.

Working with me is being proactive in your employee experience. So what happened to me doesn’t happen on your watch.

Doing the best for people is good for business.

Founders who get that are my favourite kind.

I’m online so you don’t have to be.

Being a Creator means I see how employees really use social media to talk about work: the helpful, the heartfelt and the career-ending. When your personal brand is your business, that’s the lens you want on your team.

What “Read the Room” means

An honest read.

It’s my honest assessment of what’s really going on inside your business, based on what your team says when they think you’re not listening, and what they’re posting online. I’ll tell you what you need to hear, kindly.

What I stand for.

  1. 01

    Honesty over comfort

If your contracts aren’t up to scratch, I’ll tell you. Kindly. Then I’ll help you fix them.

  2. 02

    People first is good business

People who feel valued at work don’t need to vent about it online. It really is that simple.

  3. 03

HR that fits how you actually work

Your policies should cover content, side hustles and the group chat, not just annual leave.
